YEEEYYYHAA Term 2!!!

13/05/2011 BLOG

Cross Country, YAY

Hello! Our first two weeks back in term 2 have been pretty good. My highlight as been the cross country. We are only practicing at the moment, running round the school block, but I have been training as-well. At school, Miss Stevens gives us a time that we got for the run, and we try and get a better time every day. And yes, we do it every day. Fun right? YAY I am looking forward to the day.

Soccer ho hum

Also, a soccer guy came to our school. We practiced all the techniques, and then at the end he put us in teams and we did an actual soccer game. I’ve never played soccer in before so I didn’t know how to play much. But it was still okay, I guess. I tried to do the heady thing where you bonk the ball on your head, and then your knee, and then maybe your head again or something, but you’re actually supposed to bonk it on your forehead, not your head, so I ended up clutching my head in pain because it bonked in in the middle of my head. (you might not understand what I just said.)

Speeches soon

Soon we are doing speeches. Already we have done 1 minute speeches, and soon we will be doing 5 minute speeches. My big topic is on THE OVERBREEDING OF PETS. My Mum gave it to me and I think it is a very great topic.

A great year?

Yes, definitely. My last year as a year eight is going to be the best. Yeah I know I’m a nerd, but hey! Something to be very proud of is I’m the biggest achiever in mathletics! That’s just an omg, but I’m very happy because I do it with my Mum at night and in morning, (nerdy right) but IT’S FUN! And if you want to get better at something you gotta go for it! So yep, this is a definitely a great year. No doubt about that.

Last Day Of School

Today is the last day of school! Yes, it is Friday today, and it's the LAST day. My biggest concern is dealing without my laptop, (we have one to one laptops we can take home) I'll miss her so much! Some things I can go on on my Mum's imac, like Mathletics or pixie hollow, laughs! But others I have to leave behind! Like my stories and stuff! But perhaps it's for the best somehow! :) Always be positive!

Today I think we're finishing off work and I know we're watching a movie, step up 3. I voted for Karate Kid, but I was like, the ONLY one who voted for it! Karate Kid is such a good movie I can't understand why anyone wouldn't vote for it! Anyway, obviously most people are into watching street dancing and gangsters, that's okay! The first Step Up was very good though.

Seeya! I won't be posting any more until after the holidays, and it'll take a few weeks probably then before we start posting blogs. :):) Laters!

Long Finned Eel Tapestry

Hiya! Today we did the long finned eel Tapestry, where we decorated the Greytown School Tapestry to connect to all the other schools tapestry, and go around the beehive. I went with Giorgia and we made this interesting fish that was supposed to be ugly but we put heaps of glitter and beads on it so it was pretty. Room 14 did the deep sea fish, and we did the surface fish.

At Technology

Hello! It's been a while since I posted a blog, but here I am peeps! We have been going to Technology, and I am in the sewing group. Sewing really isn't my best ability, but I tried my hardest :) Anyway, in sewing made a draft stopper, in the form of a worm. You see, I had the blue sky, the pink flowers, and the green garden for patterns. So it all includes the wildlife for a worm - lovely right? Right now at Tech I am making a supporting flag, except I don't really play sports or support any teams, so I did:

I HEART BIRDS!

And I am having a picture of a Bird. I think Bird's are amazing, intelligent, spectacular, inspirational creatures. That's my post for today!

Seeya!

                                                            The Long Finned Eel

Stephanie Bowman is a passionate woman from America who has taken a great interest in the New Zealand Long Finned Eels. Just yesterday, 14th of March, she came to Greytown School and told us about the Long Finned Eels, and what danger they are in from going extinct. And even worse, they are only found in New Zealand. Stephanie is an artist, and showed us her paintings and a story with them. She had puppets, that she used for props. The story was about Velvet, and her babies, and her next baby Elvis, and it was very clever of her. She showed us how the Long Finned Eels are in great danger of coming extinct, if we are not careful.

I thought Stephanie was a very creative and passionate person, who loved the New Zealand Eels, and couldn't bear seeing them get wiped out. She felt very strongly of them, and wanted to get the word round to the NZ folk, to let them know what danger they are in, and what we can do about it. Our syndicate is creating a banner, to attach to all the other schools banners, and she plans it to go round the Bee-Hive. It sounds very fun, and I am looking forward to doing it. I think lots of others are too.

          What can we do?
Ask people to pass on the word to friends and family
Fence off creeks so cows don’t get in and pollute the creeks.
If you catch an eel and want to release keep their slime layer intact so it can breath oxygen on land.
Don’t catch more eels than you need.
Stop commercial fishing of eels.
Don’t catch the female long finns
If you have spare time volunteer to get eels from one side of a dam to another
Don’t kill the young baby eels
Stop Pollution
Farmers need to plant trees next to creeks. Shade cuts down the pollution
Don’t catch eel with milky blue eyes they are fill of eggs and heading down stream.
Stop draining wet lands

Ways to get the Long Finned Eels noticed:

Put the link to her website

Online Club
Pamphlets
Photos and videos
Near extinction
Speeches

Comments for websites
Fencing off lakes
Be careful of what you fish
Throw back eels that are a meter or more long

Bella's Time At School

Hi! I am Bella. I go to a school in NZ and it's awesome. I have a Mum, a brother a dad, and three cats. Yesterday, we had swimming sports. I only did two lenths of breaststroke, and it was quite enjoyable. Even though I didn't get into interschool, I had two plaits done in my hair and it was frizzy the next day! We've been doing all sorts of fun stuff. Miss Butson is our Teacher, and our class is room 13. We've been doing  art, smarts, (which is where you find the real you, what areas your smart in) swimming, writing, tests! We have had a good time so far, enjoy reading my blog! Thanks!
